Kicking it off with Charlotte Gainsbourg’s step sister Lou Doillon (you’ve seen her
here already) in a film by French director Stephanie Di Giusto for Vanessa Bruno. If you like it, there’s also a FW2010 follow-up, which is just as fine.

FLY 16×9 is one-of-a-kind. “To put it simply, FLY16x9 is more than a magazine. You only have to watch it in its entirety to fully understand what this means.” one of it’s creators said, when asked to define it.
In German you’d say they’re GRENZGÄNGER – peopIe who like to cross the borders all the time. In fact, FLY 16×9 is something in-between a fashion magazine, a media agency/distributor/platform/channel as well as an artist collective.

In 2003 Stephen Blaise & Catherine Camille Cushman envisioned a platform which would serve as an authentic exchange of ideas and collaborations between artists. A direct response to the creative stagnation and repetition of ideas they were finding in traditional print media. Mind you, this was a time before social media, youtube and vimeo.

The first time they got a great deal of attention, was when they released the ZERO issue of the FLY DVD Magazine in 2005. It gained FLY critical success and a reputation for high quality production values and content creation.

Follow-up projects were from 2006 to 2008 a FLY-channel at style.com and in October of 2008 the launch of the web portal FLY16x9, finally giving FLY the ability to independently distribute their original content each month to a global network of subscribers.
Nowadays, FLY‘s contributors are some of the best – established and emerging talent from all creative disciplines – film, fashion, photography, design, art, and music.

I was very impressed, when I first saw their films. They are quite unique, in that they combine film, fashion, art, music and conceptual design in a seemingly effortless manner. It’s artistry without elitism or unnecessary sophistication.
It’s no wonder, their list of clients is similarly impressive: Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Prada, Miu Miu, Fendi, Christian Dior…
