The second part of Miu Miu’s “The Women’s Tales” – a series of films which celebrate the transformative power of femininity. Acclaimed Argentinian director Lucrecia Martel created a scenery, in which Miu Miu’s FW 2011 collection is presented in a very special and classy way. The outstanding and very cinematic film takes place on a luxury boat, cast by an “army” of mysterious female creatures. They seem to have a mysterious scheme. While avoiding to show their faces to the camera, the creatures are preparing for their metamorphosis and several strange incidents are taking place… In the end, while everyone disappears, it’s the latest Miu Miu collection which is left behind on the boat… Creepy! Wow! Da capo!

Well, it’s actually a little late for the donation effect this film was intended to initiate. But nevertheless it’s a visually stunning and expressive work you shouldn’t miss out on. Hong Kongs luxury fashion retailer Joyce collaborated with the Rodarte sisters and director Wing Shya to create this wonderful fashion film for a charity initiative. Joyce donated 1 HK$ to UNICEF for every click on youtube, up to the 31st of June 2010. The beautiful underwater-scenes paired with the perfect color grading and accompanied by the lofty score by Peter Kam create a very mystic and sensual atmosphere. Majestic!

Directed by Sam Taylor-Wood (2002)

A genius work by video artist Sam Taylor-Wood: Take the most simple scenario you get, waive all additions like sounds or visual effects and create nevertheless a breath-taking film.
While painter of the 17th century created immutable pictures of objects in their most beautiful moments, Sam Taylor-Wood refreshes the traditional work of still life and tells simple a story about the transient nature of life.
The camera catches a dead rabbit which is decompositing rapidly before our eyes, while the mellow peach beside it stays untouched all the time. In an odd, beautiful way it shows how fast a once living being can disappear without any possibility of changing it…

If you’d like to see related works of Sam Taylor-Wood, you should also watch her film Still Life. Besides her work as a video artist, Taylor-Wood had also her directorial film debut in Nowhere Boy, a movie based on the childhood experiences of Beatles-legend John Lennon.

German film production (and Ravished sponsor) RIESE FARBAUTE just released their new film
{ THE BOX }, which announces the exclusive shoe collection “Görtz designed by Perret Schaad” at this year’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Berlin. Director is Ravished founder Cristian Straub (“Dervishes in Space”).

A beautiful messenger is carrying a white glowing box in a cryptic and moody atmosphere, enhanced by the darkness of a secret place.. Nobody, even the messenger herself, knows whats inside. At the end, it’s all about the queen, who is the only one who is empowered to open the box. But will she reveal the secret….?

We think this one’s quite a visual candy. Admittedly, we can’t be really objective about it. So feel free to take a look and form your own opinion.

A while back, Showstudio veteran Ruth Hogben created quite a futuristic and graphical fashion film for Gareth Pugh’s Spring Summer Collection 2011. Two models with a fantastic, impressive body language are are mise en scene via the extensive(!) use of the holy trinity of fashion film tools: haze, slow-motion and mirror/kaleidoscopic-effects… all in all a very high end example of what could become the future of runway shows.

It’s that easy. FASHIONCLASH MAASTRICHT hosts every year a big fashion event over three days where popular fashion labels, young designers and artists show up their great work. One of this year’s more remarkable artists was Niek Pulles, better known as HEYNIEK. The Clash Project asked non-fashion designers, including Niek, to create an outfit for a catwalk show. On one condition: The models must be able to walk in that outfit. “FOAMBOY” doesn’t only prove the movability of HEYNIEKS creation, but also delivers an interesting mix of stunning black&white visual effects, multiplicative images and a wonderful minimalistic piece by the Battles. We like very much!!

P.S. For those of you who like the work of Bart Hess (we posted his films some time ago), you should also watch PATCH UP PULL OVER from HEYNIEK (btw, he’s sharing a studio with Hess).

An experimental fashion film with a lot of interesting images. Phillip Neil Martin, an award-winning composer, director and producer, uses mirror effects for splicing the model’s movements into various parts and rearranging the fragments. This way the perspectives are changing continuously… actual poses merge with shadows of the past, whirling around in sparkling cgi-lights… Wonderful!

Karl Lagerfeld himself directed and produced the new short film “The Tale of A Fairy” for the new Chanel Cruise Collection 11/12. It’s a story about the bold and the beautiful, living their everyday life full of greed for money and power, enviousness, scheming and a lot of passion around all.
The actors are all familiar faces, such as 90ies supermodel Kristen McMenamy, topmodel Freja Beha or famous actress Anna Mouglalis. All of them wearing… the Chanel Cruise Collection, of course.

In any case, despite it’s (quite lenghty) 25 minutes, the film is very much enjoyable and definitely is a milestone in the development of fashion film towards a more complex and narrative format.
