Origami artist Etienne Cliquet’s “Flotille” (French for “fleet”) is a tranquil, almost meditational piece of work. I don’t know if it’s Cliquet’s amazing conception or just the macro photography … But when you watch something like this, you feel almost inclined to to take in consideration those crazy creationist theories, after all. Marvelous.

The phantom camera strikes again! Now including smoking(haha) colors, tuned-up cars from the eighties and three flying angels by the names of Heidi, Cisco and Bambi. Yeah, those really are the models’ names. Very nice film with a score to die for. Symphonic music and especially baroque and chorals seem to became quite hot recently. Probably cause they create a certain kind of grandeur most (fashion) films wouldn’t achieve with their imagery alone.

To sum up: a very successful mix of techniques and styling devices by director Daniel Askill. If you think you might have heard the name before, you’re probably right. Daniel has done lots of cool stuff in the past, but you probably know him best for inventive music videos like this one.

The easiest thing in the world. I’m talking about making a fashion film. You just need one proper visual idea ç. And then you put in attractive girls. Desaturate everything. And just add music from a really good artist (normally you couldn’t afford to buy the rights, that’s why you just use it anyway and hope nobody will care).
What can I say. I like it. It’s a somehow punkish attitude. And the film turned out rather good, too.

Not a fashion film, but a mind-blowing music video. Directors David Strindberg and Johan Bring just throw in some glitter, sequins and magnificent costumes and hit the record button. And after a few seconds of recording comes out this video for Belgian electro act Goose.
We see lots of mysterious characters running in all directions and slowly revealing a bright object hidden in the beackground…
You’d think the super-slow-motion-effect is getting kind of tiring nowdays, when something like this comes around. Simple, clever, impressive. And now let yourself be soaked in into this crazy synthesizer-glitter-maelstrom.

Stuff has changed at this blog, but we didn’t have the chance to write about it. Now, that everything has settled in, a few words about the new RAVISHED.

First of all, it’s a WE now. We are three authors forming the core team, with the occasional guest writers in the future. You can learn about us in our ABOUT section. If you’re interested in participating, drop us a line.

If you want to submit your new, fantastic film, you’re more than welcome to. We do receive a lot of mail nowadays, so please be patient. However, if we don’t get back to you in a week’s time, we’re probably not interested in posting it. Sorry.

Regarding our future content: Ravished by Illusions was the first blog about fashion films. It used to be an exploration of the phenomenon through the eyes of a film director. Since then, some others fashion film blogs have emerged, the genre has grown up and so did Ravished.

The exploration does continue, the direction’s slightly changing. While fashion film’s still our main focus, we do see it more like a forerunner for a new breed of film which bridges the gap between the Auteur and the Brand. This film is first and foremost a piece of art, which lends it’s special aura to a brand. That means financial support and distribution, but doesn’t have to include/feature any product. The content is independent, the package isn’t.

This is happening right now. And if you want to see where it’s going, you should be in good hands here at RAVISHED.

Between the immense success of “Black Swan” and Wim Wenders’ upcoming 3-D spectacle “Pina”, it seems like ballet and modern dance are the darling topics of every filmmaker right now. Only natural, that this trend arrives in the fashion film community. We’ve seen some rather average examples in the past few weeks, but this one for New York designer Rachel Roy really stands out. In a -no-fuss-needed approach, the main “effect” in use is a clever choreography. The nice speed-ramps and a discreet color grading add up to a very nice end result.
