Here’s a teaser for Riese Farbaute’s newest film for iconic Berlin designer Esther Perbandt. The eight(!)-minute film directed by Cristian Straub will be premiering July 6th during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Berlin. Just a few days later, we’ll blog it here, of course.

A short piece by fashion photographer Philip Riches for the Amsterdam based fashion duo Victor and Rolf. Supermodel Natasa Vojnovic’s performance is exceptional in this very simple but somehow obscure piece.

Directed by a photographer exploring the means of film, starring a supermodel, financed by a well-known brand and following solely one idea, this film can be seen as a fashion film by definition. Apart from executing all these aspects successfully, Riches’ piece shows a new form of branding in a fashion film by letting Natasa constantly repeat the brand’s name.

Something cheerful for a change! Elisha Smith-Leverock’s piece for the Fred Butler AW 09 collection is a combinaiton of a clean background, bright colors, a lot of (colorful) fog and a few ballet steps. What we have a seen in many fashion films in the past months, already existed back in 2009 (quite a long time ago for the fashion film time scale). The clarity of the pictures, the music (“let this groove” cover, which will be stuck in your head) frame the stunning (!) styles by Kim Howells.

“Steffie captures the effect of wind, water, heat and light upon archetypal garments and fabrics, harnessing the distorting chemical and physical forces of nature.”

There isn’t much to say about “Delisquesce”, the film for Steffie Christiaens. Calm, silent, clear AND fascinating. Just drop a model into water and let a chemical substance dissolve on her body, revealing a Steffie Christiaens dress. It can be so simple!
Steffie worked for Maison Martin Margiela and Balenciaga before opening her own studio which mainly focuses on the progress of conceptual design integrating elements of nature.

Here we have another Daniel Askill masterpiece. A simple idea (the camera turns and turns around a model) executed brilliantly. The fog, the dim lighting and the repetitive atmospheric sound make the model and mannequins seem caught in different time-zones, between surreality and reality. Watch and get mesmerized.

Mexican directors Santiago and Mauricio Sierra show us an extremely aesthetic car crash in their film featuring the Louis Vuitton spring collection. The styling, the unbelievable hairstyling, the effects and the music fit perfectly and create a Lynch-like atmosphere between dream and reality. Even the slow motion in this fashion film actualy affects you. Wonderful.

Volt Café presents this short film by filmmaker/art director/stylist Nada Dahab. It is a sort of making-of video showing the mental creation process of Dean Sidaway’s jewellery piece quoting un chien andalou. Dark and cryptic. Nice.

Independent fashion magazines have enjoyed a come back. New formats, new paper combinations and new themes everywhere. Here for example we have the (not so new) hungarian mag The Room, whose preview of the 13th issue seems very promising. Obviously, the best way to create curiosity for the new issue is by launching it with a fashion (mag) film. This exclusive preview for models.com is a moody short piece by the hungarian directors János Rádics and Márton Perlaki. Surely the The Room’s 13th issue will be as enchanting as this piece.
